    Tokoroa Public Library. The festival, which combined art and

    to promote the library services to the large Pacific Island

    a Community Taskforce worker, the Library contacted key

    Island speakers into the library to promote user education,

    services in Papakura. There were about ten regist[...]Council resolved to call for tenders
    to contract library services. Five bids were received from
    individuals and organisations. All had various types of library
    and Local Authority experience. Manukau City Serv[...], response from the ratepayers and patrons of the
    library has been minimal. There were a couple of good let[...]n that considerable savings cannot
    be made on the library service when the Library is already
    being managed on an ultra—trim budget.

    There seems to be confusion in the minds of some
    librarians between Rotorua Medical Library at Lakeland
    Health (ROM) and the Library 8 Information Centre at
    Queen Elizabeth Hospital[...]he two
    libraries were both run by Rotorua Medical Library staff,
    since 1993 Queen Elizabeth Hospital has be[...]es from throughout New Zealand and overseas.

    The Library 8 Information Centre is descended from the
    librar[...]ho are interested in the early development of the
    library I would recommend the excellent article written by
    Judith Burton, ”A Small Specialist Medical Library”,
    published in New Zealand Libraries 46(7/8) 1990.
    In recent years the Library's focus has increasingly moved
    away from being solely a ”Doctor’s Library” to one of
    providing quality library services for all the Hospital's users:
    staff, pat[...]d a rapidly expanding
    audiovisual collection. The Library is joining the HealthLib
    gratis interloan network[...]as been
    through the Accreditation process and the Library received
    the accolade of "the jewel in the Hospit[...].

    The National Library's Timeframes Internet site has
    proved popular wit[...]the
    heritage items held in the Alexander Turnbull Library's
    collections. New images are added to the databa[...]gic Festival Week.
    The building also contains the Library and Western Bay of
    Plenty Area Office. The older[...]and still fulfils the architect's concept
    for the Library which was ”to read a book under a tree”.

    The original Library/Area Office was completed in 1987
    and the news of[...]. Overall we did not fare too badly. Although the Library
    was not subject to much structural change, we gai[...]nistration space. Prior to ”refurb” the small library
    workroom doubled as Librarian's Office, work spac[...]to the workroom became the public entrance to
    the Library and Area Office. This meant a continual stream
    of[...]comprehend how we carried
    on the business of the Library/Area Office in such cramped,
    noisy, dusty and inc[...]lly and efficiently with no cross words. In
    fact, Library and Area Office staff have formed a very close
    and supportive unit. The Library gained a big workroom
    office; the Head Librarian[...]oes the recently laid cobblestone area behind
    the Library adjacent to the Junior section. The fenced and

    a joy.

    The Trustees Library Resources Committee is a committee
    of the Trustees of the National Library, with two

    Trustees, and two by the National Library. Its role is to oversee

    In October the National Library will be starting full
    cataloguing on NZBN of some[...]. Lynne Jackett (Collection

    INSIDE LIBRARY MANAGEMENT! FIRST IMPRESSIONS

    This is my first a[...]l team of students who
    shelved books and kept the library tidy. On Friday afternoons
    I supervised the same[...]rk and part-time study meant a
    busy and demanding life.

    I had hoped to be appointed in an academic library, with
    a view to working in a theological library eventually.
    However, I was persuaded by Bible Col[...]with barbed wire. My
    visit to the Waikeria Prison library taught me I would find ’a
    real prison’ unnerv[...]kload of uniformed
    Army personnel poured into the library to borrow videos.
    They were not blue enough, I wa[...]ide. I have learned to be ruthless with gifts of

    books and magazines, and[...]th a muster of 540 inmates. Each unit has a
    small library with books supplied from the Resource Centre
    and[...]s, attends to all the photocopying
    and cleans the library. When we have finished the processing
    and catalog[...]nd borrow books for the
    inmates from Taupo Public Library. The trip is 3 tr€at-
    Learning to drive a van w[...]me too. I borrow
    material from the Turangi Public Library as well and request
    interloans for the inmates th[...]ding a
    service close to that provided by a public library. When I
    first came here, the Resource Centre was[...]ion is manual. If I had already
    worked in another library, I suspect I would find the Situation

    or present) in library and information science research.

    Recently Sheila Stebbings of Clutha District Library and
    Allison Dobbie of Dunedin Public Libraries we[...]l Government

    tempting to refuse, but as this w[...]s, special needs etc, and
    the contribution of the library to groups such as local writers,
    journalists, cra[...]Perhaps one way of assessing the public good of a library is the
    measure of the cost to the community if there were no library.
    Allison likened the public good of libraries to[...]dea thatjust because a person never set foot in
    a library did not mean that they never used a library - those
    people too benefit in many ways from the public goods
    associated with having a library in a community, for example if
    the local newspaper uses library resources and staff to research
    stories.

    recognise that those who take books from the library have a
    private benefit.

    MCL: Translated this means, I think, if you read the book

    public library sector of some of our larger cities should be
    sending urgent messages to the library community.

    Zealand Dairy Board Library. The purpose of the Trial was

    methodology design in a library which had not been part of
    the development phase. The Dairy Board Library was chosen
    for the trial because it met the NZLIA’s criteria for a trial in a
    private sector special library, as well as already having a

    library services to the Board, the NZDB Library needed first
