    currently a LIANZA representative on the
    Advisory Committee to the Library School
    at Victoria University. The challenge of
    the transition to the knowledge age for
    library practitioners is easily matched by
    the challenges provided to library
    educators. There is more to teach, and it
    is more[...]range of job titles
    and job responsibilities. And library
    educators must grapple with all the
    changes in th[...]ike to see some vigorous debate
    about the role of library practitioners in
    library education. There’s a degree of
    grumbling about library education not
    delivering graduates with the kind[...]L/ANZ4 ’s I/ision

    according to the sectors of library and
    information work we represent. And
    some definition of how library
    practitioners could work together with
    educators[...]jects for students to
    undertake, visits to real—life libraries,
    discussion groups etc etc.

    that the library educators are getting it

    and it is the information contained in that

    Essentially John makes five points in his[...]Office of Fi/m and Literature
    Classification in Library Life (Number
    5). My mother used to remind me that

    imposing it. Decisions on the content of
    Library Life should be made at the
    editorial level and be base[...]n is or what they
    do or have done. The content of Library
    Life should not be imposed or controlled
    by either Pre[...]gally contentious; other issues are
    fair game for Library Life coverage —
    provided they are relevant and that[...]it!

    Personally, I hope never again to hear
    that Library Life has been prevented
    from giving full coverage to a[...]s at censorship. However, I
    signalled in the last Library life that I
    was happy to reopen our statement for

    Background

    Ada Fache was a stalwart of the library
    profession. She commenced work as an
    assistant at Dunedin Public Library in
    1937 and except for two years as
    Librarian at Rangiora Public Library
    during the war, worked entirely at
    Dunedin Public Library, culminating in
    her appointment as City Librarian[...]ond woman to hold
    this position in a metropolitan library.

    Marian Gunn, Library Manager at
    Nelson Public Library, is retiring. Marian
    has been the Library Manager for 15
    years, during which time Nelson got a
    long overdue new library building. Prior
    to that she was the deputy for 6 years.

    Pamela Najar joined the National
    Library in early May as Manager,
    Preservation. She has re[...]982 from New England, USA to work at
    the National Library as a paper
    conservator. After four years Pamela

    Perth.

    Heather Adams joined the National
    Library as a legal deposit librarian at the
    beginning of May. Before joining the
    Library, Heather worked for three years
    at the National C[...]the Centre's bibliographic database.
    Heather‘s library career began with the
    New Zealand Forest Service[...]ries system and the Auckland
    University Technical Library.
