This paper will describe how we implemented a Discovery Service. Ben was the technical guru; Valerie brought the user perspective. Together we developed ‘Search Everything’ which dramatically changed how staff and students use our library and increased usage of our subscription services.

The paper will cover the whole journey from deciding that NorthTec needed a Discovery Service to a year after going live. We will explain which service was chosen (EDS) and why, the type of decisions and choices that had to be made before implementation, as well as the limitations and technical challenges, going live, promotion and support, feedback and reception, impacts and changes, and lessons learnt.
