    saw on AUT's Library Facebook page they

    manuscripts and archives in the Walsh Memorial
    Library at Auckland's MOTAT. The WML is

    Auckland Central Library hosts a new te reo Maori reading
    group every Mond[...]ar, a patron approached a staff
    member at Central Library enquiring if we could
    provide ate reo Maori offering in the library. We
    already have several book clubs and events in[...]attend that session.

    Books are selected from the Library's te reo
    children's collection, and loosely group[...]nciples.

    Since starting the book club at Central Library

    at the end of October this year, we have had

    Gail Dallimore, the Library Director of Unitec

    National Library of New Zealand, a researcher for
    Te RUnanga 0 Te[...]brarian at Crown Forestry
    Rental Trust and Senior Library Assistant at the

    has been and advises current and aspiring library
    leaders to be bold, be fearless, be prepared as

    When asked for advice for up and coming library
    leaders, Gail spoke passionately for the need for[...]tion who will willingly and actively
    support your library causes.

    ”I’ve been fortunate to have had goo[...]land
    and Pacific Department atAuckland University
    Library, really taught me how to be a good
    manager. My other big mentor was the Library
    Partner at Bell Gully Buddle Weir, Brian Latimer.[...]ught in business partners
    and Brian made sure the library remained

    you need to be protecting the library all the time
    from the finance staff that see the library as a
    hole that money gets poured into all the time,

    Major challenges facing library leaders today

    academic library plays in them having access to
    resources. I learned while working in the law library

    PROFESSION[...]from my role as a lecturer in the information and
    library studies team at the Open Polytechnic

    the world with the St. Lucia Public Library. This
    seemed like a crazy decision to a lot of pe[...]nd,
    and began adapting to an entirely new way of

    a catalogue ofany kind! I though[...]sure if that was wishful thinking or

    After 40+ hours of travel, I t[...]er
    organisation to work with the St. Lucia Public
    Library (SLUPL) on implementing the Koha ILS
    across the 17 branches of the library, and provide
    staff training and support. My offic[...]ons
    on how to get the bus to and from the Central
    Library.

    My main workplace, the Central Library of SLU PL,

    is a Carnegie library, built in 1924, and expanded
    in the 90s wi[...]
    [...]near complete lack of signage.

    The 16 branch libraries and mobile library provide
    service to most of the communities and to[...]mystery to me. Some things did
    make sense — the library had a
    completely functioning paper
    based circulat[...]ividuals regarded
    their roles and their time. One library staff
    member said "In the private sector you can[...]vice is unnecessarily bloated, and

    the main branch of the public
    library particularly overstaffed.
    Even when a direct supe[...]all day?" | asked
    one of the busier staff in the library,
    the administrator. "Watch people's
    business" she[...]put into perspective how even
    a poorly resources library in New
    Zealand is lucky in comparison. Other Ministries
    were well funded, but the library seemed to be at
    the bottom of the list when it ca[...]for secondary
    school students in which we visited library
    branches and taught workshops on filmmaking.
    The[...]of the SLUPL apply for and
    win an EIFL.net Public Library Innovation award
    for which the librarian had the opportunity to
    travel to the 2016 IFLA World Library Congress
    to accept the award. And I taught a Zumba class
    to a bunch of kids as part of the Soufriere Public
    Library summer school holidays programme!
